With the season, just three weeks away, the anticipation is rising for the Hornets.  Your Delaware State Hornets favored to win its 4th MEAC Northern Division softball title according to the MEAC Preseason Polls.  The Delaware State softball team opens their season with a tournament in South Carolina against Western Carolina and USC Upstate.

With the hopeful returners, Dani Velez (2B/3B), Tara Tursellino (P), Mika Lumsden (OF), Vanessa Washington (C), Khaliyah Flournory (OF), Jessica Shalongo (P), Sabrina Quarles (OF), and Alexis Goldsby (P), the Hornets look forward to the competition that this season will bring. New to the roster are freshmen, Jordan Casey (SS), Kaleigh Berry (OF), Micaela Cummings (1B), Hannah Shields (P), Desiree Moreno (C), and Jasmine Melgoza (2B/3B). During the fall, the freshman got a little taste of Division I collegiate softball, but in just three short weeks they will get to experience their first season playing for the Delaware State University Hornets! Trust us, they are more than ready to get their cleats dirty!

Head Coach, Amber Jackson and Assistant Coach, Jessica Mattia and Graduate Assistants Chloe Oro and Joel Jean-Simon are also excited for the season to start. "All of the players are excited to start playing games. Practices have been going well and the energy has been high." says Coach Mattia. The Hornets have been working hard on fielding, hitting and speed training during pre-season and plan to see the girls hard work pay off this season.
