Hornets split

The Delaware State Hornets edged the Hampton Pirates 3-2 in game one of the doubleheader today, but lost 7-0 in the second contest. 

In the first game, pitcher Stephanie Sarris went the distance by walking only one, striking out three, while allowing just five hits and two earned runs. She faced six over the minimum.

Sandy Hawthorne led the Hornets by going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Jennifer Fischbach also slammed a double in a 2-for-4 day and scoring each time she was on the base paths.

Jessica Madrid contributed the third RBI, while batting 1-for-3 with a walk.  

Chloe Oro delivered 1-for-2, drawing a walk, too, and Ashley Bennett was 1-for-3.

In the second game, Nicole Gazzolla stepped up to rap out a 2-for-3 day and Sandy Hawthorne added another hit to her totals for the afternoon.  

Samantha Gross was 1-for-3. Chloe Oro walked and stole a base.
