Winthrop Invitational
Early lead lost
Rachel Meagley, Miranda Pedersen
in extra inning

DSU Hornet pitcher Rachel Meagley allowed just one earned run today, Sunday, March 10, facing 22 batters through 5.2 innings against the Kent State Golden Flashes. She struck out three. But it wasn't enough in this closely contested game that ended in an extra inning.

It also was a tough loss to take as the Hornets had grabbed the early lead.

In the bottom of the 2nd inning, Chloe Oro drove home Jennifer Fischbach with a single up the middle that left Miranda Pedersen standing on third. Next, Oro swiped second as Pedersen stole home.

Chloe Oro, Kelsey Doherty
Three batters later, the bases were loaded for Kelsey Doherty who singled home Oro, while sending Jessica Madrid to third and Nicole Gazzolla to second. That put the Hornets ahead by a 3-0 score.

Kent State, however, capitalized on misplays to tie the score by the 7th, and jumped ahead in the 8th.

The final tallies had Gazzolla 3 for 4, Doherty 2 for 4, a hit and walk from Madrid, and singles by Rochelle Sablay, Fischbach, Pedersen, and Oro.
